How to detect metal contaminants in spices and dried herbs? (case study)
Initial status
Our customer, who produces dried spices and herbs, was struggling with the fact that metal particles were constantly found in the final products.
Problem
After analyzing the contaminated products, we found out that there were not only ferrous particles, but also non-ferrous metals (such as stainless steel and aluminum). The amount of metal contaminants was unacceptable to the customer.
These metal particles were the cause of quality complaints. The aim was to eliminate quality complaints caused by the metal contamination.
Solution
Given the fact that that there were not only ferromagnetic, but also non-magnetic metals, a magnetic separator could not be applied. The only solution was to use a gravity metal detector. In addition, the client required that the resulting solution would not need to be humanly operated. That was why we chose a top metal detector with an automatic high-speed reject flap.
The highly sensitive gravity style QUICKTRON 05 A metal separator is used to detect and reject metal contaminants from bulk materials gravitationally transported in pipelines. The detector is fully automatic, equipped with a high-speed reject flap that instantly diverts the contaminant from the product stream and minimizes the loss of a good product.
The advantageous price and high sensitivity make the QUICKTRON 05 A the most often used gravity style metal detector used to check free flowing gravity fed bulk materials.
Digital signal processing enables excellent detection results and the robust detector design contributes to its maximum lifetime.
The QUICKTRON 05 A detector is easily integrated into existing installation thanks to its low overall height and compact dimensions.
Benefits of using the metal detector QUICKTRON 05
After the installation of the gravity-free-fall style metal detector, the metal debris was reliably removed.
The high-speed reject flap automatically diverted the contaminant from the product stream and minimized the loss of a good product.
After using the gravity-free-fall style metal detector, quality complaints caused by metal contaminants were eliminated!
