Magnetic drum – crushing of pallets (case study)
The customer used the MBZ magnetic drum to separate metals from wood chips. Crushed pallets are transported by a screw conveyor, at the end of which the MBZ GRIZZLY magnetic drum is installed. The wood chips are then used as boiler fuel. Therefore, it was necessary to protect the boiler from damage by nails and also other iron impurities found in the chips.
Wood chips are strongly contaminated with ferromagnetic impurities (pallet nails). Concerning a large number of ferromagnetic impurities it would be inefficient for the operator to clean the separator manually. Hence, the customer chose a separator with automatic cleaning.
The magnetic drum is equipped with ferrite magnets. We can fit the drum with the strongest neodymium magnets as well, but their use is redundant for this application. A magnetic drum with ferrite magnets can separate metals of this size with sufficient quality - so it is not necessary to make the device needlessly expensive with neodymium magnets.
