Our company is a specialist in field of magnetic separation

We develop, produce and apply devices for magnetic separation. Our magnetic separators are designed and manufactured exactly in a made-to-measure way as per your needs.

FIELD OF APPLICATION – PRODUCTION AND RECYCLING OF PAPER

Recycling of paper Paper production has its roots in ancient Egypt. Here, papyrus rolls, made from the papyrus plant, were used around 3,000 BC. However, modern paper as we know it today did not originate until around 105 AD in China.

The paper industry plays a key role in the global economy and everyday life by producing products that are essential for communication, packaging, hygiene and other areas. It covers a wide range of processes, from the processing of raw materials, such as wood, to the production of paper, cardboard and special paper products.

This industry is increasingly focusing on sustainability and recycling to reduce its environmental impact. Modern paper mills use advanced technologies that increase efficiency and reduce energy and water consumption.

WHY ARE MAGNETIC SEPARATORS USED IN PRODUCTION AND RECYCLING OF PAPER?

In the production and recycling of paper, it is essential to ensure high quality of the final products and minimize the presence of undesirable contaminants. Magnetic separators play a key role in protecting production machinery and ensuring product purity.

There are many reasons why it is useful to use magnetic filters in the paper production:

Machinery protection

Input raw materials (pulp, waste paper) are contaminated with metals that can cause damage to expensive production technology.

Final product quality

The presence of metal particles in the paper is undesirable. The magnetic filter reliably captures them.

Efficient production process

Minimize downtime associated with machine repairs = continuous production and higher profits!

Introducing a magnetic separator into the paper production and recycling process protects expensive technologies from damage. This has a positive impact on profitability and production efficiency.

WHERE DO OUR MAGNETIC SEPARATORS HELP IN THE PRODUCTION AND RECYCLING OF PAPER?

Paper production

Papermaking is a complex process involving several key steps:

The main raw material for paper production is wood, which contains cellulose. The wood is first debarked and then ground into wood chips.

The wood chips are further processed chemically or mechanically to separate the cellulose from the lignin and other unwanted components. The result is pulp, as the basic raw material for paper production.

The pulp is subsequently cleaned to remove residual impurities and in many cases bleached.

The pulp is mixed with water to form a thin paper mass. This mass is then spread evenly on the sieves, allowing drainage and the formation of a thin fiber layer.

After removing excess water, the paper mass is pressed and will pass through drying rollers to eliminate the remaining moisture.

Finally, the finished paper is cut into the required formats and packaged for distribution.

The most frequently used in papermaking are:

The pulp bales are fixed with iron wire. When handling these bales, the wire parts can break off and get into the pulp being processed. The consequence is damage to expensive production technology and its unwanted downtime.

Pulp mixed with water forms a thick mushy mass that is very difficult to penetrate. Conventional types of magnetic rod separators quickly become clogged with this mixture and the separation is virtually impossible.

That is why in paper mill pipelines we most often install the ML-P plate magnetic separators. This separator is designed in such a way that the magnets are placed on the door with the travels so the material flow is not obstructed. The wires used to fix the pulp bales are reliably captured by this separator.

Advantages of the ML-P magnetic separator

  • No obstructions to material flow = no risk of clogging
  • It is equipped with the strongest neodymium magnets
  • Dimensioned for pressures up to 10 bar
  • Ability to catch wires even at a speed of 25 m/s
  • Also for large pipe sizes - standard up to DN 400 (larger on request as well)
  • Easy, comfortable and safe separator cleaning

INTERESTING FACT

Bulb When applied in the paper mill, our magnetic separator can capture approx. 20 kg of wires, in the size of 50 - 200 mm per week!

Metal separation in the production of cardboard packaging

Cardboard packaging is made of pulp, which may contain small metallic impurities. This harms the final product quality.

The density of the processed pulp is relatively low. So it is possible to use magnetic filters equipped with magnetic rods. These filters are fitted with neodymium magnets with an induction of 18,700 G. Therefore, they can capture even very fine impurities.

Therefore, we use the magnetic filters to separate metals from pulp as follows:

In the production of paperboard, the pulp is transported through a large-diameter pipe. That is why, we most often use the MSP-VT CRAB magnetic filter with manual cleaning, which is equipped with guide rods. This type of magnetic separator allows safe and comfortable cleaning even for large-sized separators where handling the heavy magnetic component is difficult.

The MSP-SC ORCA magnetic filter with semi-automatic cleaning is equipped with a pneumatic piston. It markedly facilitates the manipulation with magnetic cores (this is notably important for separators with larger diameters and also if the material is heavily contaminated with Fe impurities).

INTERESTING FACT

Bulb During cardboard production, the MSP-SC ORCA magnetic filter captured more than 98% of ferromagnetic contaminants!

Paper recycling

The advantage of paper is its relatively easy recycling. Paper can be recycled about 6 times. With each recycling cycle, the length of the cellulose fiber will be reduced, resulting in a quality decrease of the resulting paper.

For the production of one ton of paper, 2 - 3 tons of wood are used = wood from one full-grown tree!

Magnetic separators play a crucial role in paper recycling by removing metal contaminants that could damage machines or degrade the recycled material quality. They are used to separate ferromagnetic particles such as staples, clips or wires that are often found in paper waste. This helps keep the recycling process efficient and safe.

For paper recycling, we use the following magnetic separators:

The paper needs to be shredded into smaller fractions before it can be processed. The paper is transported to the shredder using conveyor systems. To protect the following crushing technology, we install overband magnets which can reliably capture metals.

As the paper layer on the conveyor is very high, we often use a magnetic drum for separation. Its advantage is that the paper falls freely from the conveyor onto the drum. It is spread over the entire drum width, which leads to the mixing of the paper and reduction of its layer. The result is better quality separation. For the reason above we recommend large-diameter magnetic drums - 500 - 1,000 mm.

The best separation in paper recycling is achieved by combining an overband magnet and a magnetic drum.
