Magnetic sweepers MS for airports and large areas
Tow behind magnetic sweeper MS for airports and large areas is designed to remove any ferrous metal debris (e. g., nails, tacks, nuts, bolts, screws, wires from airport runway sweepers, metal shavings, swarf, scrap metal etc.) from large flat surface areas. It is often used to collect magnetic particles (FOD - Foreign Object Debris) at airports. No matter how powerful the standard airport sweepers are, we strongly recommend a regular collection of metal debris at airports by magnetic sweepers. The giant MS 6000 FALCON will find its application at large international airports, whereas the advantages of MS 2000 FALCON or MS 3000 FALCON (with the operating widths of 2 or 3 meters) will be especially appreciated at smaller regional airports (civil as well as military ones). Besides the airports, the magnetic sweepers are also used to clean other large areas – playing fields, festival areas, racetracks, horse arenas, fairgrounds, parking areas etc.
Undesirable magnetic objects in the aviation - FOD (Foreign Object Debris)
FOD at airports can cause major problems, such as flat tires, costly engine damage, ground equipment repairs and possible injury to personnel. Therefore, special attention must be paid to the collection of ferrous particles at the airports. And the tow behind magnetic sweeper is a suitable device for completing other cleaning machines and helping to ensure maximum protection against FOD at the airport.
Efficient, affordable and reliable tow behind magnet
Our goal was to produce a continuous discharge magnetic sweeper at an attractive price and to elaborate cost-advantageous equipment also for smaller application areas (such as regional airports, smaller military airports, construction sites, agricultural areas, horse tracks and training facilities, municipalities, landfills etc.). We did not make any compromises on the quality and performance of the magnetic sweeper. I. e. , even our basic sweeper version provides sufficient magnetic power! This simplest variant is fully operational and functional. In order to meet the needs of even the most demanding customers, we have designed a wide range of optional equipment as well. The customer himself can configure the tow behind magnetic sweeper according to his own requirements.
Our tow behind magnet is equipped with an easy cleaning system and that is why the sweeper cleaning is a matter of seconds!
Tow behind magnetic sweeper for various surfaces
The magnetic sweeper is height-adjustable in the range of 30 - 200 mm. It allows operation on uneven surfaces, such as concrete pavements (and it can attract ferrous metals even from the gaps between the concrete panels), grass or gravel surfaces. The height adjustment will also be appreciated at the airports - if it is necessary to cross over runways on service roads, the magnetic sweepers must have sufficient ground clearance.

Standard tow behind magnetic sweepers are fitted with permanent ferrite magnets in a standard way, but on request, they can be set with very strong neodymium magnets as well. Thanks to the permanent magnets, no power supply is required for the attraction of ferrous particles.
The differences in the magnetic force can be seen in the following table:
Distance between the sweeper and the magnetic particles | Ferrite magnets | Neodymium NdFeB magnets |
---|---|---|
0 cm | 1 450 G | 8 200 G |
3 cm | 770 G | 2 200 G |
4 cm | 660 G | 1 580 G |
7,5 cm | 420 G | 590 G |
13 cm | 240 G | 200 G |
15 cm | 200 G | 140 G |
We are ready to advise you on the selection of a suitable magnet type. However, we especially need to know the size of metals to be caught.
Connecting and powering magnetic sweepers for airports
The magnetic broom is equipped with a removable and adjustable trailer hitch. Thus the broom can be connected to the towing device of any standard car, the installation is very easy and the use is universal.
Powering of the electrical components and lighting is led from the towing vehicle – the usual voltage is 12V, 7-pin socket, however we can make the broom so that it is adapted to the power supply of any towing vehicle.
How to clean the magnetic sweeper for airports
The tow behind magnetic sweeper can be cleaned in a very easy and safe way. The magnets are placed in a stainless steel housing. By pulling the quick-release handle, the magnets will be moved to a vertical position. This increases the distance between the magnet and the stainless cover and the gathered ferrous debris fall off spontaneously.
It is advantageous to choose the FOD box from the optional equipment. The sweeper equipped with this box not only has better aerodynamic properties and higher down pressure (suitable for higher speeds when crossing between surfaces to be cleaned), but above all its cleaning is faster. The box, which is placed in the upper part of the device during the operation, can be easily placed under the magnetic sweeper. In the course of cleaning, all collected ferrous debris fall into this box and can be easily poured into e. g. a container. So, there is no need to collect/sweep metals from the floor after demagnetization.
Optional equipment
Even the basic version of the sweeper, without additional equipment, has the maximum magnetic power and is fully operational.
However, as customers' requirements for additional equipment differ, we have decided to enable the customers to configure their own variant and thus to adapt the magnetic sweeper to their needs.
The following optional equipment can be delivered:
- Lighting - a set of powerful LED flashlights
- GPS module - for device location. It provides offline device position records, useful for safety management. This module provides data on the operating time, position, total driven distance, maximum and average speed, total cleaning time, treated area and many others
- FOD box - for convenient collection (during cleaning) of the accumulated FOD
- Container for collected FOD - 2 boxes attached to the sweeper frame
- Handbrake
- LED flash safety beacon on a telescopic rod
- Powerful LED front light
- Laser direction indicator – for following exact cleaning routes
- Special surface treatment according to customer needs (e. g., surface protection against de-icing solution)
- The sweeper will be fitted with tires according to your specifications
Should you need other equipment, do not hesitate, please, to contact us, we will prepare a tailor-made solution for you.
Effective working area
The magnetic sweeper has a huge effective working area. As to MS 2000 FALCON, its effective area is 5200 cm2 (208 x 25 cm) and the effective area of the largest model MS 6000 FALCON amounts up to 15600 cm2. So, the capacity of the magnetic sweepers is enormous and the cleaning interval can be extended, what results in faster cleaning and reduced costs.
