How to remove 98 % of ferrous contaminants from pulp if the separator is in a difficult-to-access area? (case study)
Initial status
Our customer specializes in the production of cardboard packaging. There are often small ferromagnetic particles in the pulp used for the production of cardboard packaging that negatively affect the quality of the final product.
Problem
The location suitable for installing a magnetic separator is difficult to access for the separator operator. There is a risk that the operator will not clean the separator properly, which will lead to poor separation results.
The liquid pulp is transported through a DN 200 pipe. It contains small ferromagnetic particles. Their size most often ranges from 0.1 to 5 mm.
Solution
Since the magnetic separator could only be installed in a place that is difficult to access for the operator, we recommended the application of our semi-automatic magnetic filter ORCA.
The advantage of this separator type is that it combines the advantages of a traditional magnetic filter (perfect magnetic trap, high magnetic induction of 18,700 G) and the possibility of easy cleaning.
The magnetic filter MSP-SC ORCA is equipped with:
- flaps for material inlet and outlet
- valves for the supply of rinse water and removal of the separated ferrous contaminants
- FESTO pneumatic piston for pulling out the magnetic cores from stainless steel protective tubes during the separator cleaning
Thanks to the pneumatically operated piston, the handling of magnetic cores is considerably facilitated (what is particularly important in case of bigger separators and also if the material is heavily contaminated with iron particles).
The operator appreciated the ease of separator cleaning. Regular cleaning is a matter of seconds. That is why more than 98 % of ferromagnetic contaminants have been removed!
Benefits of using the MSP-SC N 200 ORCA magnetic filter
The MSP-SC 200 N ORCA pipeline magnet has become an important part of the cardboard production process. 98 % of metal contamination is removed and the customer is very satisfied.
Applied equipment: MSP-SC 200 N ORCA magnetic filter with semi-automatic cleaning
Advanteges of the MSP-SC ORCA magnetic filter
- Semi-automatic cleaning without removing the separator from the piping system
- High pull-off force
- Resistant all-stainless steel one- or double-sheathed design
- Pressure resistance up to 10 bars
- 18,700 Gauss on the core and up to 12,200 Gauss on the shell
- Thanks to the pneumatic piston the cleaning is much easier, especially in case of bigger separators
